Commission a Painting

Commissioning a painting might initially seem a complex or intimidating process. Questions about cost, the creative process, or even where to start with choosing colours are common. Every question is welcomed, and I’m here to ensure that your journey to commission a painting from concept to completion is seamless, satisfying, and aligns with your expectations.

Every painting commission is unique, but there are various steps of the process that remain consistent. Here’s a bit about the processes and how it works.

Price

Upon enquiry I can supply you with a price list, based on various common sizes. For bespoke dimensions not included I can provide a tailored quote for a specific size. The final price is determined by several factors including, size, framing specifications and delivery requirements. Framing prices can vary depending on the style and finish. I am happy to provide suggestions if you aren’t sure what will compliment your painting best.

Based on the initial consultation I will supply a summary of the project that outlines the scope of the work, including concepts and price, ensuring transparency from the beginning. Typically, paintings take 8 - 14 weeks to complete. If framing is required, an extra two to three weeks should be anticipated to accommodate the process. If you have a specific deadline, let me know and I’ll do my best to meet this. I always recommend getting in touch at least 3-4 months before you want to receive the painting to ensure adequate time for the project.

Completion

Upon completion of your painting commission, the outstanding 50% balance becomes payable. Once the payment is settled, I will coordinate the postage and delivery of your artwork. All postage is tracked and insured to ensure your piece arrives safely. You will get updates of the painting's arrival and the delivery driver will have your details if there are any problems. Postage within the UK is included in the final price, but postage overseas will be an additional charge, which I will have quoted in the initial price.

Consultation

Each client has unique needs and expectations so this stage is integral in mapping out the direction of the painting commission. Whether you have a well-defined concept or an idea that needs some development, the consultation is designed to clarify, refine, and expand on your vision. I will ask you to provide details on the desired colour scheme for the piece, along with photographs or videos of the intended space so that I can gain insights into the environment and aesthetic of the surroundings of the room. If you aren’t sure of what you want I am happy to suggest ideas.

Creation Process

If you decide to proceed with commissioning a painting based on our initial discussions, I’ll ask for a 50% deposit and notify you when I am starting the painting. The initial phase of bringing the painting to life can span a few weeks to months. When it reaches a stage that I’m happy to share, I'll provide detailed photographs, an overview of the process and ask for your feedback. If you would like to make any changes at this point, no problem! I can tweak colours, add more or take away to suit your requirements. This means we can collaborate on the painting as it enters the final stages to get it to a place where you really love it.
